• The Sea of Fantasy BBS is BACK!

From Mysteria@VERT/SEAOF to All on Wednesday, April 02, 2025 12:18:33
Hey everyone! Unfortunately its not on the C64 (Image BBS) like it used to be. I am using Sychronet so it can be hosted on a server for me. However, I am trying to recreate it the best I can, since my aunt who used to run it had passed away. It has taken me awhile to even think about doing it, but here I am.

The reason I wanted to start a BBS again, is because the way the current state of things are, I think BBS's will make a come back. A BBS is more personable, in most instances safer. I want to create a space where people feel comfortable discussing things, without feeling as though they won't be persecuted for thier opinions. If this sounds good, come give us a visit.

    BBS Website: http://seaoffantasy.synchronetbbs.org

    Thanks!

that's cool. with synchronet you can use javascript or baja to make it look and work how you want. the baja coding language is very easy. all you need is some examples to look at and you can do most things easily.

i disagree with that. i dont think people want bbses or personable.

What makes you think they don't want BBS's or personable?

For me BBS' are just a nostalgia fix. I think they can be personable, but I don't know if that is what people want. I think guys like me that used to hauntthese in the 80s might like the personable aspect of them.

it's my experience that the nostalgia guys don't hang around long.

bbses are a service you provide for people. seeing nostalgia, etc is not really seeing it for what it is. you are looking at the paint on the house, so to speak. if you don't have real users logging in and playing games and talking in the msg bases you do not have what a true bulletin board system is.

I could argue that pushing nostalgia even hurts bbsing. it pushes new people away because people think it's some old weird thing.

Fair point. I think you are spot on here. I enjoy poking around but in all honesty I'm not sure how long the nostalgia will hold my interest. <shrug>
I enjoy BBS systems. Ran one for a while in the early 90s on an old Windows ME machine that did well. Its good to still see them around and LORD has always been a personal favorite.
