Also, how do you print from an Android phone? I saw HP had an application for that (at hpapp.com IIRC), but it requires you to send each and every file to be printed to the mothership so this was a big no no for me.

Varies by application, but generally it's buried under the share icon and not all apps support it. I'm able to print directly. I did have the HP network thing setup, as well as google's chrome printer sharing (neither work now)... but when I'm on network I am able to print (mostly).

Like for Brave browser, I click the vertical elipsis menu, then the share button at the top, then have to scroll right on the second line and print is at the end. It's kind of buried though and definitely not obvious.

I did the same thing and then I bought a Brother inkjet and

An inkjet printer doesn't use toner. It uses...... ink.

Now I don't need to deal with those miserable people at Staples.

Good point there. I think the same people work at Office Depot.

    i just print at work

Does your employer know that, and approves of it?

    or at the ups store.

More expensive than just owning/using your own printer. But it probably
    makes sense..... to you.

You can ignore the toner warnings because the inkjets don't have toner cartirdges.

Brother Laser! See, I don't even know what it is. That's how much I don't fuss with it. I do ignore the toner warnings :).

I've been using HP Laser (Color for about 9 years now), mostly because Brother was less out of the box ready with Linux. With HP, every device I typically print from including my phone just works. Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android all load and print without any special issues. I replaced the tonor cartridges once in the past decade, I don't print much, but when I do, it just goes.

Newer HP multifunction printers need plugins you need to install. It is still easy but no longer plug-and-play.

My SO's multifunction printer is mainly used for its scan-to-pdf functionality... Generally just put in a thumb drive and scan to image or pdf on the device, it's not used other than that. I don't like having to install extra junk, and don't really need it for printing itself, that and it's ink, which I'm not fond of. I need to find a better spot for it, as it takes up a lot of space for something that only gets used a couple times a year.

You don't have to convince me on HP Laser, especially a Color Laser :))

My first printer was a HP Laserjet+ and then HP Laserjet 4m with ethernet.

I didn't have a printer for a long time after that and the Brother was just to get my family to shut the hell up about printing :))

Basically, I am jealous of your HP Laser Color but I hate printers :((
