    Good morning fsxNet!

I'm trying to track down a new editor for my Ezycom board. I had been using Shawn Highfield's OPEN!Edit, but it started to misbehave, taglines mysteriously stopped working and messages were getting truncated.

I have switched to YARedit but it is very basic.

I tried a slew of editors to get here, like IceEdit, GoldED, etc, but all either gave the dreaded Runtime Error 200, or failed in some other way. GoldED for instance wouldnt work in Ezycom because it doesnt understand >2.00 message base format and produces garbage data when it tries to parse message area names etc.

Is there a good "modern" FSE for DOS/Win32 with RA style MSGTEMP support? I can use all the standard door files like DORINFO, DOOR.SYS, and even DOOR32.SYS with Netfoss.

    Cheers

    Thanks!

I had previously tried another RTE200 patcher but with no luck. The one they provide at the above link works much better though! I have QuikEdit 2.41 installed now and seems to work really well.

I'm not sure what happened to OPEN!Edit though, as it worked great initially.
I didn't care so much that the taglines stopped working, but I'd spent a good 10 minutes writing a response to the TeraDrive questions over in general, and after I saved the message, only half of it was actually 'saved'. Not great, obviously!

    Cheers

One of the first things you'll need to learn is how to get around RTE200 errors, you'll encounter them a LOT. I use patchcrt and run IceEdit on my RA compatible EleBBS system. The taglines don't work though, for some reason
the registration key works for the editor, but not the configuration program.

I wasn't talking about that. I was talking about the people that want to "be a SysOp", then put no effort into doing so. Like googling what a RTE 200 is and how to fix it.

It's elsewhere in the thread, I did try some patches and had mixed results. I hadn't hit on the right one yet, it turned out.

The core question was "Is there a modern RA-compatible FSE that I've missed?"

I'd still have asked, even if I didn't have RTE200 problems, because those editors are old, and it's 2025.

I empathise with your angle, but this isn't reddit, we ought to give one another the benefit of the doubt, or ask for clarification. Adding nothing to the discussion other than "ugh people are lazy" seems kind of.... lazy ;)

IceEdit and DCTEdit are the primary ones that I've used. I use a combination of patchcrt and unp to handle RTE200. If anyone knows of an RA compatible
FSE that allows for internal uploads, that would be great! The Reader allows for uploading of messages before the editor is loaded, but I might want to change my mind and do that from within the editor as well.

Agreed, that would be super helpful!
