My BBS has only fsxNet and Fidonet, and I probably wouldn't notice if Fidonet stopped having messages. But it's kinda neat to be in a net
that's continuously existed for 40 years, even if the net has limited value.

Almost everyone I know has a Fido node number, it's nice to have a common
    netmail platform.

We could all choose to take over an echo or two on Fido and create some
    traffic... :)

And I figure that most people, when signing up for nets, wind up doing
it during the, "My BBS is going to have everything!" stage that most people seem to get when getting started.

Lots of zone ops are turned off by net.collectors. They want boards to
contribute to their nets, not just collect them for bragging rights on
    a BBS ad.

Yeah, and you don't have to carry the echoes, if you chose not to. ;)

I have sort of done that with MEMORIES. The moderator has been away, so I moved a few things there and got a couple of people responding to them.
Now, they are talking to each other about HAM memories. ;)

    It's e-mail, but harder!

Though, yeah, agreed, there is some value in that, even if people ignore the echos entirely.

Sounds kinda fun, though we could also just post in FSXnet, and basically everyone is already here. :)

It does make sense. Especially with networks, where the value is in what people bring to the network. "Another BBS that is connected, but never sends any traffic, probably no one even reads the messages, and will suddenly disappear one day." is probably more work than it's worth.

Though that level of work contributes to a lot of things. So much that _could_ be done, but it's all hobbies for the fun of it. And most people don't get into hobbies so they can feel like they're doing extra unpaid work.
