Do you mean the phones? The new notebook doesn't seem too pricey.

We have an issue of AI companies hogging all the computer components.
    That is one reason.

Apple has always considered themselves a "premium" company, thanks to SJ. Even back in the '70s, the Apple ][ was the most expensive of the home micros. Granted, it was also the most flexible, but that pricing structure continued...until this year when they brought out the MacBook Neo for $595. It's pretty limited, but the fact that they did it is curious.

Apple has often charged a lot for their products. It's not just a symptom of AI, which is relatively recent. But some PC components are indeed expensive right now.

I upgraded the RAM in both my PCs a couple years ago, and it happened to be just before RAM prices skyrocketed.. I'm glad I did that when I did.

I don't get this idea - I can understand if you don't like the eco-system, walled garden, ethics or otherwise... but the hardware has always been the stuff to beat.

The M4 Mac Mini is hands down the best value in 2024, let alone 2025-2026. Literally.

The Neo is gonna KILL all sub $1000 laptops.

I'm a Linux guy thru and thru - but the machine that I interact with daily to control all those other systems will always be macOS.

I think a lot of us "PC people" considered them junk early on because they were not compatible with anything else, sort of like the Commodores, TIs, etc., that preceded them. With the internet age, this compatibility issue became less apparent.

Another reason being that, IIRC, they were harder to tinker with.

That sucks.. I've considered buying a bigger spinning drive for my secondary PC.
