• Restoring PDP-11/34A - Part 1

From goto_KCM@21:1/218 to All on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 08:21:59
    Hey there.

So, fist steps are done to bring my PDP-11/34A back to life.
The PSUs had to be redone and slowly awaken from their sleep.
After that, which takes about a week, done by my friend Gnther Honisch, i put back those parts together and first time after about 30 years the PSUs got powered on again.

No magic smoke escaped and after checking the voltages +5V, -15V and +15V where OK on the UNIBUS. So first step ok.

After this step i put in the Terminator Card M9302, some NPG Cards and the KY11-LB Console Card. First it worked fine, the Console was online i cold type in some numbers. But after a few minutes the Console got stuck and no longer showed anything. :-(

So, next step, get the console working again.
    Stay tuned!

    Regards
    Andreas

    I hope it goes well.
Really nice to see old machines kept alive, or brought back to life.
The closest I've been to the real PDP-11 hardware was an account I had on a machine that was running in Norway.
That guy also had a Norsk Data (ND) running at the time that I also had an account on to play around with.

Other than that I like to play around with PDP-stuff using SIMH.

I was going to ask if there's any pictures of your machine and your project, I think I can answer myself and others interested, that I think pictures are here:

Looking forward to hear more about your progress.
