Having wrinkles and aging is inevitable and no one likes it.

Wrinkles happen for multiple reasons, from hydration to lack of collagen to just basic
gravity. I first noticed changes In my skin in my late 20s. It wasn˙t fun.

That˙s when I started to incorporate anti-aging products into my routine.

Being a cosmetic chemist I knew what I needed to use, but I wasn˙t consistent, especially with sunscreen.

As the saying goes, the best thing to do for your skin in your 50˙s is to invest in good
sunscreen in your 20˙s. Since an estimated 90 percent of skin aging is caused by the
sun, protecting your skin from these harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays is the most important
thing you can do in any anti-aging skincare routine

It can be hard for someone who has never used anything to know which products will
    actually help.

Frankly, it can get quite overwhelmed with so many different options to choose from˙

Which product do you use first?

How long does it take to see results?

    What does each ingredient do?

My number 1 rule to make things simple is to stick to the ingredients that are backed by
    the most scientific research.

When searching for a good anti-aging cream look for one where Retinol is one of the
main ingredients. I can say without a doubt that Retinol is the best ingredient to use to
help diminish the appearance of age lines. However, it's important to have realistic
    expectations.

Important to note! Since retinol can be irritating to the skin, when you first add it to
your skincare routine, start slow (try it once or twice per week) then increase the
frequency if your skin can handle it ˙ to avoid redness and breakouts.

Hyaluronic acid is another ingredient that has been intensely studied, What hyaluronic
acid does is to keep the skin hydrated and plump. When this happens wrinkles look
    naturally less evident.

Vitamin C is an ingredient that helps with sun-darkened skin. As we age sun spots and
discolorations are common; needless to say, vitamin C should always be used together
with a sunscreen. If you don˙t do that, don˙t even bother.

Make sure to get plenty of collagen in your diet (NOT IN YOUR SKINCARE): Collagen is
the protein that gives our skin its structure and stretchiness. Think of it as the glue that
holds all our tendons, muscles, skin and digestive system together. As we age, the
production of collagen naturally slows down with time (hello wrinkles!).

Eating collagen-rich foods or foods that boost collagen production may also help your
body create the building blocks (amino acids) you need as our bodies produce less with
age. I wrote an article about this here: what food has natural collagen in it.

Just remember, at the end of the day, skin care isn˙t a one size fits all. Apart from early
prevention and lifestyle choices for the face, remember other key areas that are exposed
to aging are your neck, chest, and hands. So make sure you aren˙t neglecting those
areas when covering in sunscreen and keeping the skin hydrated.
