Why are so many people deficient in vitamin D, when itÿs easy for most people to step
outside and sit in the sun?
Weÿve been taught the sun is evil and getting a tan will give us skin cancer. However,
clinical evidence shows that the opposite is more likely. Not having ENOUGH vitamin D is
more likely to raise your cancer risk.
2. Not all sun gives us vitamin D. Mainly itÿs the hot mid-day sun between 12ÿ3pm or
from 11AM - 2 PM if on DST. You also need to have exposed skin and no sunscreen to
get the maximum dose.
3. Time of the year and especially latitude are key. In most northern latitudes, (New
England, the Great Lakes, the great Pacific NW in the US and all of Canada. there is a
Vitamin D winter from Nov to April. You can lay out, naked for all the most peak hours
and will never get much if any vitamin D, simply because the suns angle is not high
enough to make adequate amounts of sun.
