When we talk about antioxidants, blueberries (and some other dark-colored berries like
blackberries and acai) are at the top of the list in natural foods.

    Why are blueberries so powerful?

Blueberries are packed with compounds called anthocyanins, which are what give them
their deep blue color. Anthocyanins are incredibly good at neutralizing free radicals, the
unstable molecules that cause oxidative stress and damage in the body (which can lead
    to aging and diseases).

How much antioxidant power are we talking about?

Blueberries score extremely high on the ORAC scale (that˙s a way to measure antioxidant capacity).

ORAC value of blueberries: Around 4,600 per 100 grams

For comparison, here is the table with their ORAC values:

    Apples: ~2,500

    Spinach: ~1,500

    Broccoli: ~900

In fact, blueberries have 2 - 4x the antioxidant power of many common fruits and
    veggies.
