Why are doctors not telling us truthfully if diabetes can be cured permanently by the use
of herbal products and vegetables/fruit diets?
So here˙s the thing - diabetes is irreversible.
This is because the beta cells of the pancreas, the ones that produce insulin, have
already started to die off once someone receives a definitive diagnosis of diabetes.
These cells are currently irreplaceable, and so there is no ˙cure˙ for diabetes (though it
can be effectively managed through a combination of lifestyle changes and drugs, where
necessary.) But prediabetes (in Type 2 diabetes) is reversible.
During the prediabetic phase (the -10 to 0 range) insulin resistance goes up, and while
beta cells are overactive, their function hasn˙t started to decline yet. It˙s at this point
that intervention can reverse the course of the disease in some people.
And this is where your question runs off the rails. Because doctors know this all too well.
Many of them have turned blue in the face telling their patients about it, and have
gotten tired of harping on the fact that an improved diet high in fruits and vegetables,
and low in carbohydrate dense foods like starches, coupled with an increase in exercise
can effectively stave off diabetes.
The problem is that people often ignore this advice from their doctors, or they don˙t
prioritize it, and then they progress to becoming fully diabetic, at which point diet and
exercise changes can still help slow disease progression, but can no longer reverse it.
It˙s a frustrating situation for both doctors and patients.
