I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I THINK so... :P
You're currently in tqwNet - which is a BBS FTN Message Network. FidoNet was the first, but these days several other FTNs operate - this one is tqwNet, started by MeaTLoTioN of Quantum Wormhole BBS. A 'node' in the sense of an FTN is one BBS connected to the Message Network. There are also HUBs, which push out messages to nodes that 'pull' from it - and other things related to an FTN.
Sysops also advertise in the BBS Adverts Message Area of various FTNs - but those are [usually] full BBSes - usually TELNET or SSH Bulletin Board Systems that usually have several 'nodes' that users can connect to the BBS on. In that context, a node is one 'line' or [in the good ole days] one 'phone line' - or a node. :P
There's also node.js - but I don't think thats what yer after... either way, I'm st0ked that you found fsxNet and are taking part in the whole BBS community - I'm paulie, and I run 2o fOr beeRS bbS. We offer 19 nodes for users to login to, but if they ever were all full I'd be surprised!! :P
... what boards have you logged into so far?? Currently, I'm super amazed by futureland.today - that sysOp is doing some crazy next-level stuff in the BBS community... I dunno how many nodes he has, nut I bet they DO fill up at times!!
Some other staples in the BBS community, IMO, are Bottomless Abyss, Quantum Wormhole, Constructive Chaos, my very favorite in the w0rld - aBSINTHE, Wizards Rainbow and many others... I particularly like connecting to C= [Commodore] BBSes that display the 40-column PETSCII graphics. That freaking r0cks... Frozen Floppy is a great one, or Anarchy Unlimited - but theres dozens of awesome boards here, too...
