I got bored this week and looked at my Netgear R8000. Stock firmware. I
wanted to try some third-party firmware, as I'm going to be setting up
VLANs and wanted more flexibility.
OpenWRT doesn't like Broadcom SoCs, so looked at Tomato for the first
time in 20 or so years. There's a version called FreshTomato that is
designed around Broadcom, I really liked the GUI. Unfortunately, the
second 5 ghz radio doesn't show up in the GUI. If you SSH into it, you
can see it.
Tried DD-WRT to see if it saw the interfaces -- it showed 2 2.4ghz
networks and no 5GHZ networks. Not too much of a concern, but I wanted
to be able to use all 3 radios.
It's back to stock firmware. I'm mostly using it as an AP, so it's fine.
I'll move the untagged stuff to the router switch and use my managed
switch for the tagged gear.
